Is breakfast included?
A delicious English Breakfast is included in all our rates. We cook your breakfast freshly to order and serve it to your table. We serve Breakfast between 07.15 and 09.15 weekdays, 08.00 and 09.45 weekends and Bank Holidays.
What time can I check in?
You are welcome to arrive between 3.00pm and 10.30pm. Feel free to drop your bags (and your car – there is an excellent bus service into Norwich) earlier but do please let us know if you would like to do this so that someone is here to welcome you. Arrival time for Dowager’s Cottage bookings is between 4pm and 7pm
What is the latest checkout time?
You can checkout up to 11.00am. We are happy to store your luggage until later in the day if you have a late flight and want to explore Norwich some more before you leave
What are your Reception hours?
We are here to help from 07.00 – 11.00 and 3.00pm – 10.30pm. If you need to check out earlier, kindly settle your account with us the night before
How far are you from Norwich city centre?
We are situated just over 2 miles from Norwich city centre in a leafy residential suburb. There is an excellent daytime bus service (Mon – Sat) and an hourly daytime service in Sundays.
Do you have any rooms equipped for disabled guests?
None of our guest rooms are specially equipped for disabled guests. Our Dining Room and Drawing Room are accessible to wheelchairs and we have a ground floor cloakroom equipped for guests with disabilities. Please contact us to discuss your particular needs and how we may be able to assist you
Do you have any ground floor rooms?
No, sorry. Most of our rooms are on the first floor and we have two rooms (in the main house) on the second floor. We have no lift at The Old Rectory.
Do you serve dinner?
We serve a 2 AA Rosette ‘prix-fixe’ menu from Tuesday – Saturday from 7.00pm with last orders at 8.30pm. Our Dining Room is occasionally closed on Tuesday evenings. At Easter and Bank Holiday weekends we also serve dinner on Sunday evenings. The Dining Room seats a maximum of 16 guests and is open to non-resident as well as resident guests. We recommend that you reserve your dinner table when booking your accommodation to avoid any disappointment upon arrival.
Do you serve lunch?
We don’t serve lunch but we can direct you to a local pub or cafe within walking distance where you can get anything from a sandwich or light snack to a full lunch. We’re also happy to suggest other places further afield if you wish
Do you serve Afternoon Tea?
Residents can book tea and scones in our Drawing Room (3.30pm – 5.00pm) but we don’t serve full Afternoon Tea
Do you have a Bar?
We are fully licensed but we don’t have a Bar; we offer you a waiter service for drinks in our plush, comfortable Drawing Room, our Conservatory and on the pool terrace in summer.
Is car parking available?
We have plenty of free on-site car parking for the duration of your stay. Please contact us prior to arrival if you have a disability and you need a reserved space near our entrance.
Do you have family rooms?
Our guest rooms are all equipped for a maximum of two guests. Certain rooms can accommodate a ‘z-bed’ (suitable for a child aged up to 14), subject to availability, and / or a travel cot. Please contact us before making your reservation to check if the room you are booking can take an extra bed / cot.
Can I bring my dog?
We welcome registered ‘Assist Dogs’ but we regret we cannot accommodate pets
Do I need to pay a deposit?
We ask for a deposit to cover the first night of your stay for all bookings of three nights or more. Full prepayment is required for certain rates and dates. If you are booking multiple rooms, different deposit / cancellation terms may apply.
What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation terms relate to the length of your stay and the number of rooms you have booked. Special terms apply for certain rates. Please see our ‘Offers‘ page for more information or refer to your booking confirmation. If you need to cancel or amend your booking please contact us as soon as possible to avoid incurring a cancellation fee.
When is the swimming pool open?
Our swimming pool is generally open from May to September and is for the use of residents only. The pool is unheated. We have pool towels for your use on the pool terrace.
Do you have a gym / fitness centre?
We don’t have any fitness facilities however there are a number of gyms within easy reach and we will happily provide details of these at check-in
What size are your beds?
Most guest rooms have 5′ beds with pocket sprung mattresses. Our Classic Twin room has 2 3′ single beds and our Small Double (Old Coach House) has a 4’6″ bed.
Can I have non-feather bedding?
Yes of course; we have non-feather pillows and duvets available as well as sheets and blankets if you prefer. Please tell us when booking if you would like non-feather pillows / bedding so we can prepare your room ready for your arrival
Do your guest rooms have hairdryers?
Yes, there are hairdryers in all our guest rooms.
Do your guest rooms have tea and coffee facilities?
All guest rooms have Hospitality Trays featuring Clipper Fair-trade tea & coffee, hot chocolate, milk, sugar & sweeteners. We are happy to bring fresh milk to your room if you prefer.
Does The Old Rectory have air conditioning?
No we don’t but all our rooms have windows which open and some of our rooms have a ceiling fan.
Do you offer a laundry service?
We offer a same day ‘wash, dry and fold’ laundry service daily for items deposited between 07.30 and 11.00 and we can arrange 48 hour dry cleaning Monday to Friday. If you need an iron and ironing board we will bring one to your room upon request. Please check that all items deposited for laundry service can be machine washed and tumble dried.
Can I smoke at The Old Rectory?
We have designated smoking areas in our grounds but you may not smoke cigarettes or e-cigarettes in our guest rooms nor in any other areas inside the building. We reserve the right to charge for any damage or loss of revenue which you may cause by smoking
Do you hold weddings?
Sorry, we do not have a license to hold weddings nor do we have the facilities or space for wedding receptions
How can I pay my bill?
You can settle your account with American Express, Visa and MasterCard debit / credit cards or cash. We do not accept personal or company cheques.
Do you take foreign currency?
No we don’t accept foreign currency. There are two local Foreign Exchange facilities: Sainsbury’s supermarket is open Mon – Sat 07.00 – 22.00, Sun 10.00 – 16.00 and Thunder Lane Post Office is open Mon – Fri 09.00 – 17.30, Sat 09.00 – 16.00
Can I buy a Gift Voucher?
Yes. We have Gift Vouchers available for dinner or an overnight stay (with or without dinner), or you can purchase a voucher for a named amount. Please call us on 01603 700772 for further details.
Can you cater for food allergies?
We have full allergy information for the ingredients in all dishes on our breakfast and dinner menus and we are happy to provide gluten free bread, lactose free milk / yoghurt etc on request. Our kitchen handles a wide range of ingredients, including nuts, so we cannot guarantee there will be no trace elements of allergens in our food.
What is the nearest airport?
Norwich International Airport is about a 15 minute drive. There are scheduled flights to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Manchester, Exeter, Jersey / Guernsey and to Amsterdam Schipolfrom where you can connect to European and worldwide destinations via the KLM hub.
Stansted Airport is approx. 1.5 hours drive with flights to many European cities
Heathrow and Gatwick airports are both approx. 3 hours drive from Norwich
